A Toledo Gay Bar With More Than 30 Years of History
Casey’s history began long before the Casey’s name appeared on the building.
R House opened at 5534 Secor Road in 1995. For more than two decades, it served as a neighborhood gay bar and gathering place for Toledo’s LGBTQ+ community.
Customers came to meet friends, enjoy entertainment, celebrate special occasions and spend time in a place where they could be themselves. Over the years, regular customers became friends, friendships became traditions and the bar became part of Toledo’s LGBTQ+ history.
In 2018, R House became Casey’s Toledo. Although the name changed, the bar continued operating from the same West Toledo location.
The Casey’s name also connected the Toledo bar to Casey’s nightclubs formerly operated in Portland, Oregon. The name was originally chosen in memory of Kermit Nies, whose personal history connected Toledo and Portland.
Today, Casey’s carries those different chapters forward. It combines the neighborhood tradition of R House with the inclusive philosophy associated with the Casey’s name.
